McDonald’s Launches Their First Vegan Burger

Posted on

The Big Vegan Is Set To Hit McDonald’s In Germany, Featuring Nestle’s Innovative Plant-Based Incredible Burger

The new soy and wheat patty is said to look just like a beef patty when uncooked, similar in texture to the Beyond Burger, and will pack 17g of plant-based protein per serving – just as much as McDonald’s classic beef burgers, giving meat-eaters few reasons to favour the meat version.

The burger itself will consist of the meat-free patty, served along with mustard, ketchup, onion, tomato, and salad, and is to be cooked and put together separately from other burgers, in order to avoid contact with animal fat.

The German food news site eKitchen reported that the new vegan burger was one of 200 products that McDonald’s develops in Munich each year, where after fewer than a quarter end up in restaurants. According to a spokesperson from the fast food chain, the Big Vegan made it into branches, because it is able to provide the same tastes and textures that customers expect.

McDonald’s around the world have added vegan options to their menu over the last few years. For example, in the UK, customers can now order vegan goujon wraps and a vegan Happy Meal. Likewise, McDonald’s Sweden now offers vegan falafel nuggets and the McVegan burger, which exceeded the restaurant’s sales expectations. And across the pond in Australia, it is expected that vegan options will also be coming to restaurants soon, too.

With the McDonald’s Big Vegan burger set to launch throughout Germany on April 29, here’s hoping that the chain continue to expand their vegan offerings, and that as more plant-based menu options become available, more customers become  aware that vegan alternatives are a much more ethical way to enjoy their fast-food fix.
