You Can Now Drink Vegan Vodka To Help Animals In Need

Posted on

Vegan vodka company Hera the Dog Vodka recently launched in California with an aim to help animals in need. Owners Julia Pennington and Allison Lange—who have been working in animal rescue for 17 years through their non-profit organization A Dog’s Life—wanted to find a way to do more to get much-needed resources to animals outside of their reach. “Hera was inspired by our passion to help animals along with the belief that a business can be an incredible source for social impact,” Pennington told VegNews. “My nephew and niece-in-law own and operate a well-respected distillery in Nashville, and while speaking to my brother a couple of years ago about how we wanted to create a sustainable funding source to help animals, the idea to marry vodka and animal rescue was born.” Hera—which is currently available in 16 Los Angeles liquor stores and restaurants, including Crossroads Kitchen and Sage Vegan Bistro—is crafted from non-GMO, organic wheat and distilled seven times before being slow-drip filtered through walnut husks. Currently, $1 from every bottle sold goes to benefit rescue organizations in the communities in which it is sold, with the long-term goal to donate 50 percent of profits to help wildlife, companion animals, and farmed animals and provide free spay/neuter and emergency veterinary care. In the future, Pennington and Lange hope to make Hera a global brand and to help animals worldwide. Hera is currently distributed only in California, with plans to expand its availability to other states in the coming year.
